"That One's from Me!"

Oct 2008:To the Editor:
"Wait, that one's from me!" I cried, as the woman next to me casually tossed my mailer in the circular file. I had just been chatting with her in the bank, and we were both picking up our mail at the Cloudcroft post office. "They told me it was 12 seconds from the post office box to the trash," I continued, "But I didn't believe them." I pulled it out of the oblivion bin, and she kindly agreed to take a look at it.
So I can only hope that other voters will take a second look at that half-page postcard, which cost a total of nearly $2,500 to print and mail, that's donations of $25 each from a hundred people who have faith in me.
My opponent and I were certainly on the same wavelength about mailings, if about little else, as I received a letter from her in the mailbox the same day. Her letter listed endorsements by various Republicans; mine listed my endorsement by our Democratic Lieutenant Governor Diane Denish. I may be prejudiced, but I think my postcard was more attractive than her two-page letter.
Will either mailing persuade undecided voters? We will find out when the votes are tallied on November 4. In the meantime, early in-person voting has already started at the county administration building annex (it will start at the Roswell Mall on Saturday October 18). Recently registered voters may not be able to take advantage of this, but if
you have received your voter ID card you can vote now. Call the county clerk's office (624-6614) for exact times, though I think it is 8am--5pm.Since the campaigns are getting pretty sophisticated about finding out if you have already voted and then eliminating you from their robocall and mailing lists, you can save yourself some trips to the trash can if you vote early. You will also save me, or your favorite candidate, some money!
