Splurge on Democrats
To the Editor,
The Bush administration’s latest addition to our national debt is the “economic stimulus check”, more accurately known as the “splurge.” I just found information on a friendly California congressman’s web site (http://www.costa.house.gov/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=384&Itemid=66) about when the payments will occur, and mine won’t be mailed out until June 13.
What will you do with your check? I suggest that you donate it to the Democratic candidates of your choice. From 1992 to 2000 Clinton worked to get our budget under control, and was actually headed toward a balanced budget. We will not return to fiscal responsibility until we again have a Democratic administration.
You don’t believe it? Check out these numbers. During the past nearly eight years of the Bush administration, the national debt has increased by $3.7 Trillion, to $9.4 Trillion total. It looks like Bush will make it to $10 Trillion before he leaves office, which is what I warned my Republican neighbor would happen when he was celebrating Bush’s victory in November 2004. That’s an increase of $4.3T total.
During the eight years of the Clinton administration, the national debt increased by $1.7 Trillion. (I find it hard to call this ‘only’ $1.7T, but compared to Bush...) And Bush is borrowing this money from countries that don’t like us very much, like China.
Splurge on Democrats, Obi-Wan Kenobi. It is our only hope.
